When you start a new business there are a few things you need to take care of immediately.

Register your business and obtain an ABN. If you are considering a few different names or variations then it is a good idea to check if the business name is available and if the domain name is also available.

Web hosting is a service that hosts websites for clients. It offers the facilities required for them to create and maintain a site and makes it accessible on the World Wide Web. Companies providing web hosting services are sometimes called web hosts. I only use Australian companies and those with good customer service. As in 24 hour technical help and a phone number where you can call them.

The most common type of website is a WordPress website, this is often coupled with a premium theme. You need to make sure the company supplies what you need to build the website you want.

You can register just one domain name or several depending on your domain name and the business you are starting. You can add alias names to your main website, such as samsaradesigns.com.au is our main domain name but we have 3 aliases.

In Australia registering domain names cost around $14.95 per year, although some companies will charge more, so shop around. It is also a good idea to register your domain name at the same place where you buy your web hosting. Once again shop around but here are a few things you need to check before you buy.

• what size do you require

• does it include an SSL

• can you add email to the domain name

• do they do regular back ups

• what is included in their technical support
